It is 1949 and there is money to be made...

Wes (Peter Bland) and his side kick Cyril (Phillip Gordon) are a couple of country hopefuls who make a living out of conning small town bookies. When Wes wins a large amount of money at the local illicit casino from the villainous Sel Bishop (Michael Lawrence), Sel manages to avoid paying up so they join forces with the bizarre "Mexican" the Tainuia Kid (Billy T James), and set out to get their money back.

Came a Hot Friday is based on the book of the same name by Ronald Hugh Morrieson and features songs sung by Prince Tui Teka and Beaver.

Director Ian Mune has produced a film full of wry charm and subtlety with first rate production values which captures the sense of time and is generously populated with colourful characters and a standout performance by Billy T James. Winner of 7 New Zealand Film Awards.

Please note this 1985 movie is rated PG.

This event is in partnership with Waikato Museum.
